The body needs water and protein to function properly. Likewise, fat is an integral part of our diet. But everyone knows that too much of anything is always a bad omen.  Excess consumption of fat may result in various health conditions that are either permanent or prove to be fatal. Are all fats bad? Of course not. There are two types of fats used for human consumption: Saturated and Unsaturated Fats.

High consumption of fats can result in serious health problems as greasy foods are digested slowly. Hence, excess fat consumption may result in bloating, stomachache, and diarrhea. Moreover, the extra fat in the gut can affect the bacteria responsible for digestion. This can further slowdown metabolism which can result in weight gain and low nutrient absorption. Slow digestion can also weaken the immune system of the body, making it susceptible to diseases and virus attacks. Diabetes is also a plausible result of a high-calorie intake as most high-fat foods contain a high amount of sugar or carbohydrates.

Let’s talk about saturated fats. They represent the more stereotypical image of fats i.e., fats in meat, dairy products, lard, ghee, and other fried items etc. These fats are commonly found in greasy foods such as burgers, pizza, cakes, snacks, etc., and should be avoided. As opposed to unsaturated fats, saturated fats promote the production of LDL cholesterol that commonly blocks the arteries, resulting in atherosclerosis – leading to the risk of a stroke – as well as disturbing the digestion by preventing the growth of healthy bacteria in the intestines. This can result in weight gain, bloating, breathing problems, brain damage, or organ dysfunction.

Unsaturated fats are further divided into Mono and Poly-unsaturated fats. Monounsaturated contains oils like olive, canola, peanut, etc., while polyunsaturated fats can be found in canola soybean oil, flaxseed, walnuts, etc.

These oils help in regulating good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterol levels in the blood since an imbalance may result in high blood cholesterol. However, as mentioned above too much of anything can be bad which is why it is always recommended to take these oils as per the dietary need. This is because a greater intake can backfire and result in low HDL cholesterol which, again, is bad for the body.

A Better Alternative to a High-Fat Diet

The best alternative in the current trend is to use an air fryer. Air fryers use oil as much as a tablespoon to deep fry food and give it the same taste and texture as any other deep-fried food. If you want to eat chicken wings, you can use a chicken wing air fryer and if you crave for French fries use a French fry air fryer. These alternatives are not only the healthiest option available, but also the best snack on your favorite meals guilt-free! Be it French fries, chicken wings, or fried sweet potatoes, air fried is just as good as deep-fried, and without a doubt, air-fried fries sound a lot healthier than deep-fried fries.
